“Do you know why the fool is the most powerful card in the tarot? Not because the person who draws it is a fool; he’s a fool because he’s a clean slate, and therefore can become anything”.

The above was Bu bu’s quote in ‘Now You See Me 2″. I’m not crazy about magic, although I’d like to be blown away (not literally, though) by some astounding tricks. I am not a fan of cards either. In fact, I have never played cards in my life.

But if there was one thing I picked from watching the 2016 American heist film, and sequel to the 2013 film, Now You See Me, it would have to be The Fool Card.

I found the Fool Card, and the concept around it quite rousing, and with a key lesson. So I decided to read more about what exactly this Fool Card is/was, and here’s a little bit of what I found out.

 “The fool is a very powerful card in the Tarot deck, usually representing a new beginning—and consequently, an end to something in your old life. The fool’s position in your spread reveals which aspects of your life may be subject to change. The fool portends important decisions ahead which may not be easy to make, and involve an element of risk for you. Approach the changes with optimism and care to gain the most positive outcome.”-TrustedTarot.com

Putting this side by side with Bu Bu’s quote in the movie made better sense. Now, my personal interpretation of the fool card, and the underlying keywords for me are,

I wouldn’t take this as a Jack of all trades (and master of none) situation, but instead, to mean that one is ready and open to change; positive change. It could be a personal relationship with someone, even business or career related.

For example, at the beginning of every New Year when most people resort to making resolutions and stuff, I do none of that. Rather, I’ll want to enter the New Year with no baggage; keeping an open mind and readiness to attain new heights. A kind of ‘blank new’ feeling.

This is what being a clean slate means to me. That I am ready to take on anything and become anything. This positive mindset of readiness and preparedness for whatever, I believe, always marks the beginning of something great.

If you’re not ready or prepared for change, it will be hard for you to notice an opportunity when it comes. And maybe when you finally do, you won’t even be a ‘clean slate’ to take it up.

Now this, the fool card, is my personal lesson from Now You See Me 2.
